Test Search

Preview live autocomplete, ranking, and debug signals for an index from the Test Search tab.

Open the index, then Test Search. Type a query the way a shopper would. When search is SuggestAPI hosted, results use the production search path for that index (schema, synonyms, search mode, and merchandising). In search proxy mode, Test Search is not a substitute for the plugin test in Manage Settings; hosted ranking will not appear.

Use this tab after imports, configuration saves, reindex, or merchandising changes. The Documents Find box is not a substitute; it only scans stored document text.

What you see

  • Ranked hits with titles and identifiers
  • Query time, result count, and search mode when the response includes them
  • Debug details such as normalization and synonym expansion when the playground requests debug output

Type at least two characters. Queries are trimmed; wrapping quotes are stripped on paste.

When results look wrong

  1. Confirm the document exists on Documents.
  2. Confirm the field is Searchable and boosts are saved on Configuration.
  3. If you changed schema or mode, Reindex and wait on Tasks.
  4. For a pin that does not appear, check the merchandising rule is active, the query is exact, and the campaign window includes now.
  5. If the tab reports that edge search config could not load, Test Search needs the hosted Search API. Check Search serving is SuggestAPI hosted, or test your plugin from Manage Settings instead.
